2022 World Slasher Cup kicks off

After a two-year absence, the World Slasher Cup (WSC) is finally returning to its home at the Smart Araneta Coliseum this March 2022.

The much-awaited comeback of the Olympics of Cockfighting was marked with a pre-event press conference held on March 19 at the Novotel Manila Araneta City. It was attended by some of this year's participants and sponsors, reigning Binibining Pilipinas queens, and members of media.

During the press conference, some changes in WSC were announced. For this year’s editions, WSC audience will not be allowed to shout their bets in the arena. Instead, they have to place their bets via the kiosk machine to be set up inside the Coliseum, or via an online portal that can only be accessed through their smartphones while inside the venue.

The launch of WSC merchants, available soon via the official WSC website, was also announced during the event.

March 21 and 22 will see the two-cock elimination round, while the three-cock semi-finals will happen on March 23 and 24. The competition will be on break from March 25 to 26 before the four-cock pre-finals on March 27 and grand finals on March 28.

First held at the Big Dome in 1963, WSC has become the premier cockfighting event in the Philippines, attracting breeders and cockers from around the world for almost six decades. It has been the top venue for some of the world’s best cockers and breeders, making this highly-anticipated event the Holy Grail of Cockfighting.

The 2022 World Slasher Cup is made possible by Thunderbird, Emperador, Petron, Asiawide Negrense Construction Corporation, Tempo, and Pilipino Mirror.
